Way back before the course even started, we were asked to create a simple visual portrait to introduce ourselves to everyone else on the course. I decided to make myself into a biscuit.
I started off by trying to do some sketches (the slightly less awful ones are on my tumblr) but quickly came to the realisation that drawing a super realistic portrait was not going to work, mainly due to the fact that I cannot draw super realistic portraits.
I then decided to simplify things a bit, breaking the image down in to key features, big hair, big eyebrows and a dress but I thought that simply doing that and giving it in would be a bit boring if it wasn't done in an interesting way - and what could be more interesting than a biscuit?!
I set about making a very very very basic template, making a very very very basic shortbread biscuit mix, rolling the mix out and carefully cutting out the Laura-shaped biscuits, this process had varying degrees of success.
After baking, I had to work out how to make them look more like me and after many many attempts of trying to make buttercream roll out smoothly (it doesn't) I resorted to ready-to-roll icing, with a bit of food colouring gel, it doesn't taste as nice but it looks a lot better. I then took a couple of photos, during which most of the biscuits fell apart and I was done.
P.S. Hope that post was alright, I'm aware that its looking a bit broken up with pictures and that the photos are of varying quality which is v annoying but things will start to look a bit better soon hopefully!
P.P.S (My friend Chris said that the below photo should be my self portrait because I am "a mess")
